Dark Mass – 26th June 2021
We’ve never been ones to shy away from the dark.

Since the beginning of recorded history, the winter solstice has been one of the most significant events in all human cultures, marked by festivals and rituals, symbolising the death and rebirth of the sun, with themes of sacrifice, mourning, fertility and new beginnings all common threads.

The Old Norse calendar referred to mid winter as the “butchering month” – where the first sacrifice of winter was made and the harvest brought indoors. Many cultures would slaughter their livestock so as not to have to feed them through deep winter – making it almost the only time of year that meat was in plentiful supply. Beer and wine made over the harvest months would be finally fermented and ready for drinking.

Yule, the precursor to Christmas, was a time for farmers to bring their bounty to the heathen temple, where it was customary for all to take part in the drinking of ale – including toasts to Odin, Njörðr and Freyr, the king and departed kinsfolk – to shower in the sacrificial blood of slaughtered livestock, and feast on the sacrificial meat.

Winter is also arguably Melbourne’s greatest season and one in which its unique spirit and rich cultural bounty shine.

The solstice this year falls on June 26th and to commemorate we’re throwing a party celebrating darkness and to raise money for the Melbourne City Mission.

Festivities will include dark beer on all of our taps, a midwinter feast, a ticketed beer masterclass with the brewers, dark art, dark music and the official launch of our 18% Barrel Aged Peated Imperial Oatmeal Stout 440ml cans.

Woods of The North – May 15th 2021

It’s no secret that we love wood here at 3 Ravens. Wood plays a huge role in a lot of our favourite things: wild brews, barrel-aged strong ales, spirits, barbecue and live music (to name just a few). When you combine all of these you end up with our favourite party of the year – Woods Of The North.
Off the back of the roaring success of our 2019 event, we’ve brought on board three Melbourne hospitality heavyweights: Boilermaker House, Mjølner Melbourne and  LOVER. We’ve also invited two of our most creative brewer mates, Dollar Bill Brewing Pty Ltd and Future Mountain Brewing and Blending, to showcase and celebrate their treasured barrel-aged brews.
Each brewer will partner with a cocktail bar to create a beer inspired by a signature cocktail. And the bartenders have created a unique cocktail inspired by one of the brewers flagship beers.
The bars have also lined up three of their favourite oak-aged spirits to pair with the treasured barrel-aged beers from each brewer’s cellar to create a boilermaker menu for the ages. Or if you prefer your spirits paired with barrel-aged pickle juice we’ve got you covered.
There will be wood-smoked and coal-fired meat and veg on the menu, alongside deep fried barrel-aged feta balls, barrel-aged pickles, some very special barrel aged sauces, and barrel aged water to keep you hydrated of course.
Tickets are $95 and include a serve of all six beers, lunch, three cocktails, spirit samples and boilermaker pairings, plus raucous live music to keep the good times (and barrels) rolling.
To top it off, we’re GIVING AWAY a Magnum of an exclusive blend from 3 Ravens, Dollar Bill and Future Mountain. 1 in 10 lucky ticket holders will win one of these rare and limited Magnums valued at $75. The only way you can get your hands on one of these is by purchasing a ticket to Woods Of The North. There will be few left to purchase on the day.
Tickets go on sale at 9am Monday the 29th of March and are available via goodbeerweek.com.au.
