Early Winter sees the summer heat dissipate and rains start to replenish the land. Bees furiously produce honey, birds nest and feast on nectar, mushrooms emerge after the first frost while the ground is still warm, moths and new growth feed gliders, wallabies and eastern grey kangaroos.
To celebrate the changing of the seasons we’ve brewed a “double” version of our 4.5% Oatmeal Stout “Black”, dialling it up to 8% and to make it even more special we’ve included a portion of Ethiopian Black Barley, grown and malted by Voyager to “Munich” spec for rich nutty and biscuit flavours, as well as “roast” spec to provide colour and strong dark chocolate and coffee notes. Ethiopian Black Barley has been celebrated since 4500BC, is prized in the baking industry for its umami character (and colour!) and agronomically speaking is wonderful for sustainable farming - its larger canopy and foliage helps it to compete with weeds, eliminates the need for spray chemicals and increases soil carbon.
